2 to 1 Baccarat

Introduction

2 to 1 Baccarat is a baccarat variant found in the Crown casinos of Melbourne and Perth. I understand it is intended for small bettors and has a lower minimum bet than regular baccarat.

Rules

The rules are the same as conventional baccarat, except as follows.

  1. No commission on winning Banker bets.
  2. A winning 3-card total of 8 or 9 will pay 2 to 1 on both Player and Banker bets.
  3. Ties lose.

Odds

The following table shows the odds for the Player bet. The lower right cell reflects a house edge of 3.62%.

Player Bet

Win Combinations Probability Return
2 356,212,163,551,232 0.071265 0.142531
1 1,874,306,119,041,020 0.374981 0.374981
-1 2,767,879,992,911,100 0.553753 -0.553753
Total 4,998,398,275,503,360 1.000000 -0.036242

The following table shows the odds for the Banker bet. The lower right cell reflects a house edge of 2.20%.

Banker Bet

Win Combinations Probability Return
2 304,079,683,551,232 0.060835 0.121671
1 1,988,172,882,886,660 0.397762 0.397762
-1 2,706,145,709,065,470 0.541403 -0.541403
Total 4,998,398,275,503,360 1.000000 -0.021970

Strategy

If you must play this game, the Banker bet offers a much better bet, with a house edge 1.42% less than the Player bet. However, if you can afford the minimums in regular baccarat, then I would highly recommend playing that instead.

The following table compares the house edge in 2 to 1 Baccarat with regular baccarat.

Comparison to Regular Baccarat

Bet 2 to 1 Regular
Player 3.62% 1.24%
Banker 2.20% 1.06%
