Double Bonus Spin Roulette

Introduction

Double Bonus Spin Roulette is a roulette variation by IGT. It features a bonus space on the wheel, which may be bet on and gives any other bet two chances to win. This bonus space is 50% wider than all other spaces, giving it a 50% higher chance of winning than any other space.

Rules

  1. The game is played on a wheel with 39 spaces — the traditional 38 spaces in double-zero roulette and a Bonus space.
  2. The bonus space is 50% wider than all other spaces, thus giving it a 50% greater chance of winning than all other individual spaces.
  3. If the ball does not land in the Bonus space, then all bets other than the Bonus bet will pay the standard roulette odds (see table below) and the Bonus bet will lose.
  4. If the ball lands in the Bonus space, then the game shall play a Bonus Spin.
  5. The Bonus Spin is played on two concentric wheels that are numbered the same way as the wheel used on the initial spin. Where the ball lands in the inner wheel shall determine one winning outcome. Where the outer wheel stops directly above the ball will determine a second winning outcome.
  6. For any bet other than the Bonus Spin bet, if the ball lands in the Bonus space, then the player shall get two opportunities to win, one for each wheel in the Bonus Spin. If the player wins on both wheels, then he shall win twice as much as for winning on one wheel. The bets, bet amounts, and pay table shall be the same as for the initiating spin. If the player wins on at least one of the wheels in a Bonus Spin, then he shall get his original bet back. If the outcome of either wheel is a zero, then it shall count as a loss.
  7. If the player bets on the Bonus and the ball lands in the Bonus space, then the player shall immediately receive an instant win equal to 11 times his bet. Then, the player shall go onto the Bonus Spin. If the Bonus Spin results in one Bonus wheel landing on the Bonus spot, the player shall win 120 to 1. If the Bonus Spin results in both Bonus wheels landing in the bonus spot, the player shall win 1200 to 1. The win from the Bonus Spin, not counting the instant win, shall be carried to the win for the original spin. That win shall also be paid on a "to one" basis (yes, I know this is getting confusing), except if the win is for the base win only. Here is the bottom line to how much the player wins on a Bonus bet according to the number of wheels in the Bonus Spin, that land in the Bonus spot. These wins are on a "to one" basis.
    • Two wins: 1200+11+1 = 1212
    • One win: 120+11+1 = 132
    • Zero wins: 11
  8. If the player bets on a split bet between the 0 or 00 and the Bonus and the ball lands in that chosen zero, the player shall be paid 17 to 1, as is standard for a split (two-number bet). If the ball lands in the Bonus space, then the player shall immediately receive an instant win equal to 5 times his bet. Then, the player shall go onto the Bonus Spin. If the Bonus Spin results in one Bonus wheel landing on the Bonus spot, the player shall win 60 to 1. If the Bonus Spin results in both Bonus wheels landing in the bonus spot, the player shall win 600 to 1. In addition, if either Bonus wheel lands in the chosen zero, the player shall win an additional 17 units for each wheel that lands in the chosen zero. The win from the Bonus Spin, not counting the instant win, but counting any wins for the chosen zero, shall be carried to the win for the original spin. That win shall also be paid on a "to one" basis (yes, I know this is getting even more confusing), except if the win is for the base win only. Here is the bottom line to how much the player wins, according to how the Bonus wheel land. These wins are on a "to one" basis.
    • Two Bonus spot wins: 600+5+1 = 606
    • One Bonus spot and one chosen zero: 60+17+5+1 = 83
    • Two chosen zeros: 5+2*17+1 = 40
    • One Bonus spot: 5+60+1 = 66
    • One chosen green: 5+17+1= 23
    • Both wheels lose: 5
  9. If the player bets on a three-way bet between the 0, 00, and the Bonus and the ball lands in that either zero, the player shall be paid 11 to 1, as is standard for a street (three-number) bet. If the ball lands in the Bonus space, then the player shall immediately receive an instant win equal to 3 times his bet. Then, the player shall go onto the Bonus Spin. If the Bonus Spin results in one Bonus wheel landing on the Bonus spot, the player shall win 40 to 1. If the Bonus Spin results in both Bonus wheels landing in the bonus spot, the player shall win 400 to 1. In addition, if either Bonus wheel lands in the chosen zero, the player shall win an additional 11 units for each wheel that lands in the chosen zero. The win from the Bonus Spin, not counting the instant win, but counting any wins for the zeros, shall be carried to the win for the original spin. That win shall also be paid on a "to one" basis (my head is spinning), except if the win is for the base win only. Here is the bottom line to how much the player wins, according to where the Bonus wheels land. These wins are on a "to one" basis.
    • Two Bonus spot wins: 400+3+1 = 404
    • One Bonus spots and one zero: 40+11+3+1 = 55
    • Two greens: 11+11+3+1 = 26
    • One Bonus spot: 40+3+1 = 44
    • One zero: 11+3+1 = 15
    • Two losses: 3

The following table shows the Bonus spin bets for bet that include the Bonus spot. I converted the base win to a "to one" basis. The help screens list them on a "for one" basis.

Bonus Bet Pay Table

Bet Base Win One Win in Bonus Spin Two Wins in Bonus Spin
Bonus Only 11 120 1200
Bonus and One Green 5 60 600
Bonus and Two Greens 3 40 400

Example

double double spin roulette 1

In the image above I bet $1 each on red, 1 to 18, and the Bonus.

The ball then lands in the Bonus space and the wheel is replaced by the Bonus wheel, consisting of two concentric wheels.

double double spin roulette 3

The winning outcomes of the Bonus Spin are black 26 and red 36. The player is paid 11 to 1 as the base win for the Bonus bet. One of the two bonus spins lands in red, so the player is paid 1 to 1 for the bet on red. In video formats of casino games, the return of the original bet is usually called a "win." Thus the player gets back $11 for the base win, $1 as the win on red, and $2 back for the original wagers on the Bonus and red bets, for a total of $14.

Analysis

The first set of tables are for bets that do not involve a partial or complete bet on the Bonus space. The first two rows in each table are for immediate wins and losses that don't involve a Bonus spin. The rest of the lines break down the possible wins and losses through the Bonus spin.

The following table summarizes the house edge on each bet. Note the wide range of house edge from 1.94% to 14.28%. For this reason, I recommend betting on individual numbers only. Remember, all conventional roulette bets may be made by betting on individual numbers.
