Pragmatic Play Software & 30 Online Casinos Reviewed

Introduction

Pragmatic Play is a new name for a set of software that was previously called TopGame, which has been in operation for several years. The group operates a software that is available for play in most regions throughout the world, including the United States. Unfortunately, many of the casinos using Pragmatic Play software are rogue operations, with only a handful of the sites using them being worth your time. I tried not to let that skew my opinion on the developer as I took a look at the company's games.

Basic strategy card

There are two blackjack games I'm aware of -- Royal Blackjack and Multihand Blackjack. Unfortunately, I couldn't find rules for them anywhere. However, between the table felt, playing one hand (the account I played had only a few dollars left), and the basic strategy chart, I can at least infer the following:

  • Dealer stands on a soft 17
  • At least four decks are used
  • Player can double on any first two cards
  • Double after a split is allowed
  • Dealer takes a hole card and peeks for blackjack
  • Surrender is not allowed

About the only major rule not covered is whether re-splitting is allowed. If we assume six decks of cards and no-resplitting, which is usually the case with Internet casinos, then the house edge would be 0.46%.

About the basic strategy card, there is clearly an error if the player has a 13 to 16 and the dealer is showing a 2. The card says to hit. The odds favor standing under any realistic set of rules.

Please note the return table below reflects the rules stated above, which are out best guess, based on limited information.

Pragmatic Play is pretty pragmatic about cranking out roulette games. Change the color the felt and the name and, viola, a new roulette game! Throw in an electronic one just so it isn't too obvious they are all the same. All of the roulette games are single-zero roulette, which offers a 2.70% house edge on every bet.

Video Poker

Jacks or Better

Pragmatic Games offers three video poker game to the best of my knowledge. They all have well-known pay tables to land casinos. The game-play is fun and realistic. My only complaints are the deuces wild pay table is rather stingy compared to the other two and the auto-hold feature frequently gives incorrect advice.

The following table shows the Video Poker games available in alphabetical order.

Double Exposure

Double Exposure

I can't tell you much about Double Exposure because if there is a help file, I couldn't find it. About all I can say is what I learned from the table cloth — the dealer hits a soft, a blackjack tie is a push, and a winning blackjack pays even money. Those are all typical rules for the game. I will say that it plays nicely. My only complaint is the lack of any rules to be found.

Casino War

casino_war.png.jpg
Casino War

Like many other providers of Internet casino software, Pragmatic Games offers a Casino War game. I guess it is an easy game to produce. Like all the other table games, I couldn't find a help file so I don't know how many decks they use or what happens on a tie after a tie. Assuming they follow the standard rules of six decks and no bonus for two consecutive ties, then the house edge would be 2.78%.

Live Dealers

Pragmatic Play also offers live dealer games. As of this writing in March 2020, all we know about it is from the Pragmatic Play web site, which lists six games: roulette, roulette, speed roulette, baccarat, speed baccarat and blackjack. We will update this review as we get more information.
