Introduction

3 Oaks Gaming is an Isle of Man company that gained certification in the jurisdiction in early 2022 with the help of the Isle of Man public/private business conduit, the Department for Enterprise. The company seems to be closely related to the game developer, Booongo Games which rebranded to BNG Games about the same time 3 Oaks came onto the scene. The core offering at 3 Oaks is a portfolio of Booongo slot games, some made before 2022 and many created after that.

BNG (formerly known as Booongo) appears to be the storefront for games with the RNG certified by QUIENEL and iTechLabs while being licensed in the Curacao jurisdiction. On the other hand, 3 Oaks Gaming’s RNG is certified by Gaming Associates Europe Ltd in the Isle of Man.

Slots are the company’s only gaming product for consumers. Additional B2B products include a game server and back office.

Aside from the core product appearing in the public domain as a BNG/Booongo creation, it’s not clear if 3 Oaks does any other game development in IOM or Malta or if they are simply a distributor, supplier, aggregator, and possibly a platform provider. The BNG studios are most likely headquartered in Kyiv with additional production or distribution in Asia happening from Taiwan.

3 Oaks is owned by Green Rock Holding of IOM and collectively managed by Green Rock and One Rock Ltd of Malta, giving the games a European-facing storefront, so to speak. In addition to 3 Oaks Gaming’s IOM license and RNG certification, it also holds a license from the Gaming Commission in the UK under the trade name Green Rock Limited.

The company's digital literature lists several operator partners and platform partners. We might assume the operator partners are online sites with direct integrations of the company's games. These include over a dozen brands including Vbet, SlotsCity, NetBet online casino, and Pokerdom.

When it comes to platform partners the list is much longer and includes Alea, Groove Gaming, Hub88, Digitain, Every Matrix, and super crypto platform provider SoftSwiss.

Slots

3 Oaks does only slot games. Below are screenshots and reviews of a few randomly chosen games. Return percentages are not indicated in the help files or company website (boo!).

The game portfolio holds about 100 slots at any given time. The slots of today seem very consistent in mechanics and style to games released as early as 2018 with titles like Book of Sun, Dragon Pearls Hold and Win, Book of Sun MultiChance, and 777 Gems setting the standard. However, we did find some differences in paytables from the day one launch on Booongo and the games as offered today.

Sunlight Princess

Sunlight Princess is a 5x3, 30 payline slot set in ancient Egypt and originally launched by Booongo, The game’s features include a combination of wild symbols, free spins, and bonus rounds that can increase your chances of winning when they are triggered.

The Princess symbol acts as the wild to help form winning combinations. The scatter is the Sunlight Palace icon. Land three of these to get eight free spins. Only the highest-paying symbols, scatters, wilds, and bonus symbols appear during the free spins round. Free spins can be retriggered within the feature by landing another 3 scatters on the same spin.

One of the main features of the game is the Hold & Win bonus round. This will be activated when you land six or more Flaming Sun bonus symbols. The triggering symbols will lock into place, and the rest of the reel positions will be cleared. You start with three respins that will reset any time a new bonus symbol lands. The round continues until the respins run out, or you fill all 15 positions with bonus symbols. Filling the board will release the Royal Jackpot, worth 10,000x your bet.

There is also a “Bonus Accum” feature. Bonus symbols from non-winning spins are accumulated on a hidden meter and collecting enough of them can trigger the Hold & Win feature.

There's also a Super Bonus game. To activate this feature you’ll need to land five bonus symbols along with a special Flaming Red Sun symbol. All bonus symbols will transform into Super Bonus symbols with larger payouts in this round.

Mystery symbols can appear during Hold & Win and then change into jackpot symbols for more chances to win big.

While the game is easy on the eyes and may or may not be attractive to individual players simply by its theme, the money is in the action and it does produce enough wins to keep you interested while hunting for that bonus blackout in the Hold and Win feature.

Super Hot Chilli

Super Hot Chilli is a 5x4, 25 payline slot by 3 Oaks Gaming released in July 2024. The game is set against the backdrop of a Mexican fiesta (food feast, music, dancing, etc.). The game offers a mix of wilds, free spins, and a Hold & Win feature to spice up the action on the reels.

The Free Spins feature is awarded when Nudging Wilds appear. Aside from the festive atmosphere of color and sound, the main feature of the game is the Hold & Win Bonus round. The bonus will be triggered when you land six Chilli Pepper bonus symbols or fill a special meter. You can’t see the meter’s progress but every time you land a chili in regular gameplay you’ll see it feed the fire.

Just like in the previous game, when the bonus is awarded you’ll start with three units on the respin meter. Every time a new Bonus symbol lands it will lock into place to help you collect more prizes. Each time one or more symbols lock in, the meter will reset for three respins. Along with cash prizes from regular Chilli Peppers, you might land Jackpot Chilli Peppers, These symbols will award any or all of the Mini, Minor, Midi, and Major jackpots. Fill all 20 of the reel positions on the board with symbols to trigger the Grand Jackpot.

An extra row above the reels during the Hold & Win feature adds to the game with boosters like multipliers, upgrades, and boost symbols, giving you extra chances to increase potential payouts.

This game has a lot more small to medium wins than Sunlight Princess and the games couldn’t be more different on the surface. Under the hood, we find a 500x total bet Grand Jackpot in this game.

Candy Boom

Candy Boom was released by Booongo in November 2021. It’s a 6x5, pays-anywhere, tumbling video slot with a candy-themed design. It features jelly sweets, lollipops, and chocolate muffins. Rather than a spinning slot with reel strips and paylines, Candy Boom is focused on chain reactions and multiplier bonuses.

The Jelly Cascade feature is the cascading respin part of this game and that’s what you’ll spend most of your time on. After a winning combination, the jelly sweets continue to tumble down, creating more wins as long as new combinations are formed. The multiplier feature adds to it with up to six Rainbow Jellies landing on the reels to multiply your win by anywhere from 2x to 100x. Once the cascade ends, all multipliers are combined, and the total win is multiplied by the final amount. The max win on this game is 7,000x your bet (10,000x on the original Booongo iteration).

Landing four chocolate muffin/frosted cupcake symbols triggers 10 free games. During the free spins, you’ll get five more spins on a retrigger. There's also a bonus buy feature that lets you buy the free spins trigger for 100x your current bet.

If you like this sort of game for the mechanics or the colors, softness, or candy fantasy, this might be a game for you

If you are used to playing BNG or Booongo games that look and act just like these, be sure to check the paytables because some of them have been changed. There could also be other modifications such as gamification or bonusing engines depending on where you find them.

Conclusion

I prefer to chase every lead down until it drops into a rabbit hole when it comes to a game supplier’s associations but that’s simply not possible in this case and the war in Ukraine could have a lot to do with that. It’s probably well enough to leave the Boongo and BNG mirrors in the past and take 3 Oaks Gaming at face value based on their RNG certification and licenses from the Isle of Man and the Gambling Commission in Great Britain.

With that being said, it’s not great that return to player percentages (RTP) and volatility indices aren’t available for these games. Certified random number generators are very important but those audits only guarantee the fairness of a game to give a random result, not the math behind the payouts.

Game Fairness

While we don’t find anything on the level of a monthly audit report showing the RTP of each game, we can easily find the RNG certifications, both for the original developers and for 3 Oaks Gaming in its current capacity.

Below are links to the Boongo certificate as found on the BNG website and finally the RNG Certificate for 3 Oaks Gaming. All are in PDF format.
