Introduction

Miss Week 10 of 2019-2020 NFL of Season? We’ve Got You Covered

Week 10 of NFL football was quite interesting. There were some big upsets as well as close games that came down to the wire. Now that the 2019 – 2020 NFL regular season is more than half way over the race for the playoffs has heated up. There are some changes in the standings, and at this point every game carries more weight than they did in the earlier portion of the football year.

This was a close game that came down to the very end to decide a winner. Derek Carr led another late winning drive as Josh Jacobs scored on an 18 yard rush with only 1 minute and 2 seconds left on the game clock in the fourth quarter. Although the Los Angeles Chargers played fairly well throughout this contest their inability to protect the football may have cost them the game. Melvin Gordon had a good performance as he racked up 108 yards on the ground and a touchdown, but unfortunately it was not enough as the Oakland Raiders defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 26-24.

After losing four consecutive games the Chicago Bears came back to life at Soldier Field for a much needed win. The Detroit Lions were playing without the services of their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, and their back up quarterback Jeff Driskel played pretty well but the Lions came up just short. After weeks of strong criticism Mitchell Trubisky had a strong game to lead the Bears to victory. Trubisky threw three touchdown passes which should help his confidence moving forward as the Bears need to start racking up wins if they want to contend for a possible playoff spot in the very competitive NFC.

The Baltimore Ravens absolutely destroyed the winless Cincinnati Bengals 49-13. The Ravens unbelievable starting quarterback Lamar Jackson continued his amazing season both with his arm and his legs. He was accurate completing 15 of his 17 passes, and he threw three touchdown receptions as well. Jackson also was able to pull off an absolutely incredible 47-yard touchdown run as he made the Bengals defensive players look foolish.

The Cincinnati Bengals had one bright spot in Joe Mixon rushing for over 100 yards, but other than that there is not much for the Bengals to be happy about. Currently they are in position to earn the first overall selection in the 2020 NFL draft. The Baltimore Ravens will be tested next week when they face the Houston Texans coming off their bye week.

This was another close battle in which Cleveland was able to snap their 4 game losing streak. The Buffalo Bills missed a game tying field goal with 22 seconds left to enable the Browns to win this game 19-16. Cleveland was led by a strong performance by their star wide receiver, Jarvis Landry, as he finished the game with 97 yards through the air and a touchdown reception. Nick Chubb helped their cause as well with his rushing attack in which he tallied 116 running yards on his 20 carries. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been playing well as of late so it will be interesting to see how the Cleveland Browns respond in that Thursday Night Football match up.

The Kansas City Chiefs got their reigning MVP quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, back under center this game, but he was unable to lead his team past the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. Mahomes did however have amazing numbers in this contest as he passed for 446 yards and three touchdowns. The Chiefs had a chance to tie the game at the end with a field goal attempt by Harrison Butker, but the kick was blocked to seal the victory for the Tennessee Titans.

Tyreek Hill had another spectacular game as he caught 11 balls for 157 yards and a touchdown reception. However, the Kansas City Chiefs were unable to stop the offensive rushing attack of the Tennessee Titans. Derrick Henry ran for a substantial 188 yards and two touchdowns on the ground as he led the way for the Titans to beat the favored Chiefs in this upset.

This game was another very surprising upset as the struggling Atlanta Falcons beat the New Orleans Saints mightily on the road last Sunday. The Saints did not find it easy as they usually do to score points as they finished the game with only 9 points which is their lowest point total in any game so far this season. The Atlanta Falcons defense came to play as they found a way to sack Drew Brees 6 times in this disappointing game for the Saints. Hopefully for New Orleans they can bounce back next week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who are not a very good football team this year.

This game was a battle of two very bad New York teams that fought it out for an ugly Jets win. The Jets defense played well as they completely shut down Saquon Barkley as he finished with his career low in rush yards with only 1 yard on the ground. The Jets also were able to score defensively as their superstar safety Jamal Adams was able to return a strip sack for a touchdown which was a deciding factor in the Jets 34-27 win over their in town rivalry Giants. The Giants have now lost six games in a row, and the Jets have matched them by earning their second win of the season.

Jameis Winston actually had a decent game leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory over the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Winston recorded 358 passing yards and a touchdown throw as he completed 30 of his 48 passes, and his two interceptions did not end up costing his team the win as they usually do. The Arizona Cardinals enjoyed an outstanding performance from Christian Kirk. Kirk picked up 138 yards through the air to go along with his 3 touchdown receptions, but it was not enough to beat the Bucs on the road.

In another big time upset the Miami Dolphins defeated the Indianapolis Colts for their second straight win of the 2019 – 2020 NFL season. The Colts turned the football over three times, and these mistakes may have cost them the game. The injury to Indianapolis’ Jacoby Brissett at the quarterback position was also a possible reason for the Miami Dolphins winning again during a season in which they are clearly tanking for a top draft selection in the 2020 NFL draft. The Dolphins better start losing again if they want a top pick in the draft this April.

This was a very close game in the snow at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It came down to the Packers defense keeping the Carolina Panthers out of the end zone at the end of the contest to potentially tie the game and force overtime football. Aaron Jones had 3 rushing touchdowns that really helped Green Bay in the inclement weather. Running Back Christian McCaffrey had a good game but was unable to get into the end zone when it was absolutely necessary at the very end of the game. McCaffrey finished the game with 108 running yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a gutsy performance on the defensive side of the ball to beat the struggling Los Angeles Rams 17-12 at Heinz Field. Jared Goff seems to have digressed as he found a way to throw two costly interceptions in the loss. He is not playing even close to as well as he was last season.

Minkah Fitzpatrick had another turnover returned for a touchdown as he has been really showing up on the field after he was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will be interesting to see how both of these two teams respond with their prime time dates next week with the Chicago Bears and the Cleveland Browns who are both coming off a win this week.

The Minnesota running game led by Dalvin Cook continues to stun opponents as he outplayed the two time rushing champion in the NFL Ezekiel Elliott. The Dallas Cowboys witnessed a great performance by Dak Prescott as he threw for 397 yards and three touchdowns, but it was unfortunately not enough for Dallas to win the game.

I am surprised that the Minnesota Vikings have posted a record of 7 and 3 as they continue to just barely out play their opponents and rack up wins. The Dallas Cowboys seem to be incredibly vulnerable and I am not so sure they will be able to coast into the playoffs in the Philadelphia Eagles continue to improve this season.

Save the best game for last! This was the best game of week for sure, and it was possibly the best game of the year so far. It went back and forth especially towards the end. It was filled with turnovers, high intense moments, heavily pressured kicks, and both the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers had multiple opportunities to win the game late in the evening.

The San Francisco 49ers took the lead early 10-0, and they seemed to have control of the game in the first half or so. The Seattle Seahawks were happy to be at 10 to 7 in favor of the Niners at half time, but they saved the best for last. The second half was a back and forth defensive focused battle royale.

A recently picked up place kicker for the 49ers, Chase McLaughlin, hit a game tying field goal at the very end of regulation to force an overtime period. On the first possession in overtime, Russell Wilson, and the Seattle Seahawks drove down the field nicely until Wilson threw an interception in the red zone with a nice return on the end of the play giving the ball back to the Niners with excellent field position.

San Francisco drove back and attempted a high pressured 47 yard field goal to win the football game, but Chase McLaughlin missed the game winning kick this time. These two teams proceeded to exchanged punts, giving the ball back to Russell Wilson and the Seahawks with only 1 minute and 25 seconds left on the overtime game clock.

Wilson led his offense easily down the field patiently and set up a nice position for their kicker, Jason Myers, to attempt the game winning field goal from 42 yards out from the uprights. Myers nailed the kick to win the game 27-24! The San Francisco 49ers are no longer undefeated (8-1), and the Seattle Seahawks are 8-2. The NFC West division will be highly contested between these two teams for the remainder of the 2019 – 2020 NFL regular season.
