Introduction

Yggdrasil Gaming is a Swedish online casino game developer that popped onto the scene in 2013. The company started out by developing online slots, slowly working its way up from simplistic games like Jokerizer to more sophisticated titles. As the group’s games matured, so did their market saturation. The company’s games have been picked up by many large casinos thanks to direct deals and distribution agreements that put the games on different aggregate platforms.

In late 2017 the company revealed that they were beginning to develop table games. The first of these games is Sonya Blackjack, which brings modeled 3D dealer Sonya to the tables. The game is a stepping stone for the group, and their development of table games will likely mature, just as their slot verticals did a few years ago.

John Carew Blackjack

The Yggdrasil Sonja and Lucky Blackjack games could be described as an animated live dealer game. Up to three players play at the same time. The dealer does a good job of keeping the game moving along. The blackjack rules on both are as follows:

  • Six decks
  • Dealer peeks for blackjack
  • Dealer stands on soft 17
  • Blackjack pays 3 to 2
  • Double on any two cards allowed
  • Double after split allowed
  • Player may split once only (no re-splitting)
  • No surrender

No unusual rules to speak of. Both my house edge calculator and the help files report a house edge of 99.54% or house edge of 0.46%.

Lucky Blackjack offers two side bets, as follows:

  • Lucky Ladies — Lucky Blackjack follows the 100-30-10-3-1 pay table for a house edge of 6.22%
  • Lucky Lucky — Lucky Blackjack follows the 500-200-100-25-15-3-2-1 pay table for a house edge of 7.07%.

Finally, I should mention that we received a press announcement in November 2019 from Yggdrasil about their new game "John Carey Blackjack." However, the announcement didn't give any information on the rules and I can't find any mention of it on their web site.

The following table shows the Blackjack games available in alphabetical order.

Roulette

Golden Chip Roulette

Yggdrasil offers a game called "Golden Chip Roulette." It plays like conventional single-zero roulette for all bets except those on a single number.

For single-number bets, the win is randomized. The possible wins are 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, and 500. These wins are expressed on a "for one" basis, unlike the other roulette bets.

The game rules do not state the probability of each single-number win, but do state the overall return on such bets is 96.8%. Remember, the standard odds of 35 to 1 (or 36 for 1) returns 97.3%. Using a little math, the average win on single-zero bets is 35.8 for 1, a little less than the usual 36 for 1.
