Pai Gow Tiles Strategy
Introduction
The following strategy is for Pai Gow Tiles. Follow the first rule that applies.
1. ONE WAY
If one split beats and/or ties the low and high hands of both other splits, set the tiles that way and disregard all other rules.
2. PAIRS
Play a pair in the high hand whenever possible, unless splitting is indicated below:
- Split Gee Joon to make 7/9 or better.
- Split 2s and 12s to make 6/8 or better.
- Split 5s to make 7/7.
- Split 6s to make 7/8 or better.
- Split 7s to make 7/7 or better.
- Split 8s to make 8/8 or better.
- Split 9s to make 9/9 or better.
3. TEEN AND DAY
Play the best high hand if at least one of the other two tiles is a Gee, 6, 7, 8, or 9. Otherwise, play the best low hand.
4. TEEN OR DAY
Follow the first rule that applies:
- Play the best low hand if it is worth 6 or 7 points and its high tile is Teen, Day, or H8.
- Play the best low hand that puts a Wong, Gong, or High Nine in the high hand, unless it ranks lower than 4-with-H8, in which case play the best high hand instead.
- Play the best low hand if it is worth 5, 6, or 7 points.
- Play the best high hand.
5. NO TEEN OR DAY
Follow the first rule that applies:
- Play the best low hand if it is at least 4-with-H8 but no higher than 8-with-L10.
- Play the best low hand if the best high hand ranks lower than 6-with-H6.
- Play the best high hand.
