Four the Money

Introduction

Four the Money is a dice game I heard was offered at the Four Winds casino in Michigan in July 2012. It is loosely based on craps. There are various things to bet, all of which win if they occur before a seven is rolled. A description of each bet follows.

Number Bets

The player bets on any total of the two dice, from 2 to 12, except seven. The player wins if the chosen total is rolled twice before a seven. The following table shows what each number pays, the probability of winning, and the expected return.

Number Bets

Number Pays Probability Expected Return
2 45 0.020408 -0.061224
3 14 0.062500 -0.062500
4 7 0.111111 -0.111111
5 5 0.160000 -0.040000
6 3.5 0.206612 -0.070248
8 3.5 0.206612 -0.070248
9 5 0.160000 -0.040000
10 7 0.111111 -0.111111
11 14 0.062500 -0.062500
12 45 0.020408 -0.061224

All Odd

The player bets that every odd total, except seven, will be rolled before a seven. Wins pay 16 to 1. The following return table shows a house edge of 6.90%.

All Odd

Event Pays Probability Return
Win 16 0.054762 0.876190
Loss -1 0.945238 -0.945238
Total 1.000000 -0.069048

All Even

The player bets that every even total will be rolled before a seven. Wins pay 70 to 1. The following return table shows a house edge of 3.66%.

All Even

Event Pays Probability Return
Win 70 0.013570 0.949879
Loss -1 0.986430 -0.986430
Total 1.000000 -0.036551

Any Seven

The player bets that the next roll will be a seven. Wins pay 4 to 1. The following return table shows a house edge of 16.67%.

Any Seven

Event Pays Probability Return
Win 4 0.166667 0.666667
Loss -1 0.833333 -0.833333
Total 1.000000 -0.166667

Four for the Money

The player bets that no sevens will be rolled in four rolls. Wins pay 1 to 1. The following return table shows a house edge of 3.55%.

Four for the Money

Event Pays Probability Return
Win 1 0.482253 0.482253
Loss -1 0.517747 -0.517747
Total 1.000000 -0.035494

Strategy

If you must play, I would stick to the lower house edge bets of All Even and Four the Money. Given the choice between this game and craps, the best bets in craps are better than the best in Four the Money.
