Alex, Bob and Charlie are, in no particular order, a logician, politician and lawyer.

The logician always tells the truth.

The politician always lies.

The lawyer lies or tells the truth randomly.

They make the following statements:

Alex: Charlie is the politician.

Bob: Alex is the logician.

Charlie: I am the lawyer.

James Madison trivia

Fourth president (1809-1817)

  1. At 5'4", Madison was the shortest president.
  2. Both of Madison's vice presidents, George Clinton and Elbridge Gerry, died in office. After the death of the second vice president, the office remained vacant.
  3. Madison is only one of two presidents to make an appearance in battle. Armed with a pair of pistols, he rushed to the front lines when the British were attacking Washington DC. The other such appearance was Lincoln in the Battle of Fort Stevens during the Civil War.
  4. After the British burned down the White House, Madison lived in Washington DC's Octagon House, which is now a museum.
  5. First lady Dolly Madison actively planned social events at the White House and took up social causes. She is credited as defining the role of the first lady.
  6. The first White House memoir was written by Paul Jennings, a slave of Madison's who served as a servant at the White House.
  7. Madison is known as the "father of the Constitution." When he died in 1836, he was the last surviving signer of it.
  8. Madison had no known biological children, although it was rummored he fathered one with one of his slaves.
  9. Madison completed a four-year degree at what is now Princeton College in just two years.
  10. Madison was an outstanding writer, including writing many speeches for George Washington.
 

Solution to puzzle.

We can rule out Charlie being the logician, since he claimed to be a lawyer. The logician may not lie.

We can also rule out Bob being the logician, since he claimed Alex was. That leaves the only possibility for the logician as Alex.

After we establish that Alex is the logician, we can take it as fact that his statement "Charlie is the politician" is true.

That leaves Bob as the only occupation left, the lawyer.
