Andrew Jackson Trivia

This week we continue our look at US presidents, in order they served as president. This week we are up to the 7th president, Andrew Jackson. Jackson served two full terms, from 1829 to 1837. He accomplished much during his lifetime, some of it controversial, especially the relocation and deaths of thousands of Native Americans, in what is known as the Trail of Tears. His personality, based on my reading, shows a very self-confident, aggressive and vengeful man. Sounds like somebody else we all know.

In honor of Jackson and the presidency in general, I present my own hand-picked list of Andrew Jackson trivia. However, before that, as usual, I present our weekly logic puzzle.

Logic Puzzle

Alex, Bob and Charlie are, in no particular order, a logician, politician and lawyer.

The logician always tells the truth.

The politician always lies.

The lawyer lies or tells the truth randomly.

They make the following statements:

Alex: Charlie is the politician.

Bob: Alex is the logician.

Charlie: I am the lawyer.

Who has what profession?

Logic Puzzle Answer

Alex is the logician

Bob is the lawyer

Charlie is the politician

Logic Puzzle Solution

Let:

A = Alex

B = Bob

C = Charlie

There are six possible combinations of who is who:

Logician A A B B C C
Politician B C A C A B
Lawyer C B C A B A

Let's examine the last statement first. Clearly Charlie can't be the logician, because he would be lying to say he's the lawyer. Eliminating those two possibilities, we're left with:

Logician A A B B
Politician B C A C
Lawyer C B C A

Next, let's examine the second statement. B can't be the logician, because he is claiming Alex is, which would be a lie. We can eliminate two more possibilities that B is the logician, leaving:

Logician A A
Politician B C
Lawyer C B

The only two possibilities left include A being the logician. It is just a matter of who is whom,between the politician and lawyer. Per the first statement, C is the politician, since it comes from the logician. That leaves only:

Logician A
Politician C
Lawyer B
