Vela Gaming Software & 2 Online Casinos Reviewed

Vela gaming logo

Vela Gaming is a Malaysian casino game developer that's based out of Petaling Jaya. The group is newer, having been established in 2019. It is positioned to take advantage of the growing Asian market, but man, does it have a lot of work to do. Vela's software is incredibly disappointing. The games are slow, the odds are lousy, and the virtual cockfighting is disturbing. Additionally, you can see that the company steals logos and trademarked visuals from organizations, which will likely lead to cease and desist letters at some point down the road.

The end result is a very low-quality developer that seems to be lazy in almost every aspect. I'd recommend you stay away from this developer's games at this time.

It would be an understatement to say the slots by Vega Gaming are outdated. To make matters worse, I think most are skins of the same design. The most positive thing I can say is they are better than Vela's table games.

The baccarat game offers the standard five bets and pays. It also has a score board showing all five "roads."

My biggest annoyance with this game is the player is required to flip over the cards of the side he bets on. There seems to be no way to override this and the game plays slower than an Atari 2600 so it is frustrating if you want to play fast.

Here are the pays and house edge of the bets offered:

  • Banker — 0.95 to 1 — 1.06% house edge
  • Player — 1 to 1 — 1.24% house edge
  • Tie — 8 to 1 — 14.36% house edge
  • Player pair — 11 to 1 — 10.36% house edge
  • Banker pair — 11 to 1 — 10.36% house edge

Dragon Tiger

Dragon Tiger

The Dragon Tiger game is just as painfully slow as baccarat. It also requires the player to turn a card, unless he bets on the Tie only. As usual, they pay the terribly stingy 8 to 1 odds on a tie. As with baccarat, they do offer a score board with all five "roads." Here is the house edge on the three bets offered:

  • Dragon* — 1 to 1 — 3.73% house edge
  • Tiger* — 1 to 1 — 3.73% house edge
  • Tie — 8 to 1 — 32.77% house edge**

*: Ties lose half.
**: Ouch!

Monkey Race

Monkey Race

Both Monkey Race and Horse Racing are simple Derby games, where there is a race between six monkeys or horses. There are three ways to bet:

  • Winner of race
  • Show — The game incorrectly calls this a "place" bet, but it is actually a show bet, which wins if the chosen horse/monkey finishes in the top three. A place bet is supposed to win if the chosen racer comes in the top two.
  • Quinella — The game calls this a "pair" bet. This is what is called a Quinella in the U.S., a bet that wins if the chosen two racers come in first and second in either order.

For the Monkey Race game, the betting layout for the Pair bet shows monkeys numbered 7 to 10, who aren't even racing. However, that seems to be a graphical error. It is supposed to be numbered 2 to 6, allowing for all 15 possible ways to choose 2 racers out of six.

After doing a lot of math, I show the return for this game to be very close to 88%, depending on the exact pays offered. Once when I made a Pairs bet I got a multiplier of 4x, but I have no idea why. The rules don't mention anything about a multiplier. Assuming it is possible to win a multiplier, that would increase the return above 88%, but without knowing the average multiplier, I have no idea how much they increase the value of the game to the player.

Horse Racing

Horse Racing

Horse Racing is a skin of Monkey Race. Please see my section on that game for more information.

Baseball Fever

Baseball Fever

This page shall apply for Baseball Fever, Basketball Fever, and Penalty Kick, which are all skins. All of them involve three rounds of some even that has a 50% chance of winning. For example, in baseball there are three pitches, which can either result in a strike or the ball being hit. The player may bet on the outcome of any one event or a parlay between all three of them.

Bets on any one event pay 1.95 for 1, which equates to a return of 97.5%

Parlay bets, on all three events, pay 7 for 1, which equates to a return of 87.5%.

Finally, Vela gets the Wizard's finger wagging of shame for I'm sure obviously stealing the logos of Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, and some of the specific teams that play these games.

Basketball Fever

Basketball Fever

Basketball Fever is a skin of Baseball Fever, based on three free throw shots (is there any penalty that earns three?). Please see my page on Baseball Fever for more information.

Penalty King

Penalty King

Basketball Fever is a skin of Baseball Fever. It is based on three penalty kicks. Please see my page on Baseball Fever for more information.

Pokemon Fever

Pokemon Fever

It's not often that I say this, but I don't really understand, nor care, what is going on with this game. The help files are not much help. You're on your own with one.

Ding Dong

Ding Dong

This looks like a skin of Pokemon Fever, which I don't understand either. I am quite sure they don't have proper right to the Monopoly man logo, so shame on Vela for stealing it. By the way, contrary to popular belief and this screenshot, the Monopoly man does not wear a monocle.

Safari Hunter

Safari Hunter

I'm not sure what to call this type of game, but I've seen it before. Every time the player shoots the gun it is like a bet and he wins according to what kind of animal he hits. No information is given out the odds nor return.

Blue Ocean

Blue Ocean

Blue Ocean is a skin of Safari Hunter. See that game for what little information I know.

American Blackjack

The blackjack game allows for playing three hands at once. This is the only table game by Vela that plays reasonably fast. I would say it is their best game, but that isn't saying much.

The following table shows the Blackjack games available in alphabetical order.

American Roulette

Vela calls their roulette game American Roulette, despite having one zero only. The house edge on every bet is 2.70%.
