Excellent Odds

In my opinion many online casinos are too stingy when setting the odds on their games. They think they will make more money that way but I believe they are misguided, because when players lose too quickly it’s not fun, and those players might not come back.

Bovada is one of the few casinos that understands this. They offer generous odds to let you play longer and get you a better chance of winning. Among their generous offerings are Full-Pay Jacks or Better returning 99.54%, six other video poker games paying over 99%, single-zero roulette, and my favorite, Pick ’em Poker, returning 99.95%!

Kudos to Bovada for not being afraid to give their players a good gamble.

Quick Quads — analysis and review

Quick Quads is a video poker game I noticed at the Red Rock in September, 2008. For the first five coins bet per hand, the game plays like ordinary multi-play video poker. For an optional sixth coin bet, the player qualifies to add two cards together to complete a four of a kind. For example, if the player had 99936, as I did in the picture below, he can add the 3 and 6, to make a fourth nine. A full house like 66633 will pay as a four of a kind too. Only four of a kinds of 2 to 10 qualify as Quick Quads, and aces count as one point. The game sometimes bumps up some of the four of a kind wins too, for a sixth coin bet. With the sixth coin bet, the player will get about 2.7 times as many four of a kinds.

The following return tables show the pay tables available at the Red Rock at the $1 denomination, in order of highest to lowest return. The return column is the product of the win, probability, and 5/6.
