Introduction
If you ever wanted to calculate the payback for a video poker game yourself, then you've come to the right place.
Video poker, as many of you know, is one of those rare casino games where the player can actually have the edge.
Whether or not this edge exists depends solely on the pay table (and how well you play your cards if that edge exists, but that's
another story).
Instructions
To begin, select a game from the drop-down menu and click the "select game" button.
Next, modify the payouts for the game if necessary. Enter the modified numbers as a single unit bet. For example,
if you are playing 5-coins and a royal flush pays 4000 coins, divide 4000 by 5 to obtain 800 (4000/5 = 800).
Finally, click on the "get return" button and you're done!
Risk of Ruin
Once you've calculated the return for a game, you can analyze that game's long-term risk.
Specifically, you can calculate your Risk of Ruin (RoR) for that game. The RoR is the probability
that you will lose your entire bankroll if you keep playing and never add to that bankroll (or take
winnings away from that bankroll).
To begin, enter the cash back, if any, being offered by the casino. For example, Sam's Town in Vegas offers $1 back for
every $1000 you wager. So the cash back in this case is 0.001 ( $1/$1000 = 0.001). Next, enter your bankroll in betting
units. For example, if your bankroll is $1000 and your betting $1.25 per hand, you would enter 800 ($1000 / $1.25 = 800).
Then, click on the "get RoR" button.
Alternatively, you can enter a risk of ruin percentage and calculate how big of a bankroll you need to achieve that level of
risk. To begin, enter the cash back as you did above. Next, enter a risk of ruin percentage. Enter 10 for a 10% chance
of losing your bankroll. Finally, click on the "get bankroll" button.
