Ron Paul and Internet Gambling
Last update: October 29, 2007
As an apolitical site, I do not endorse candidates, and usually only comment when gambling and politics intersect. Such is the case with the H.R. 4411, The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act, which was later passed into law as a rider on an unrelated bill on port security. Here is a quote from what Texas Congressman, and Republican presidential candidate, Ron Paul had to say on it.
In conclusion, H.R. 4411 violates the constitutional limits on Federal
power. Furthermore, laws such as H.R. 4411 are ineffective in eliminating
the demand for vices such as Internet gambling; instead, they ensure that
these enterprises will be controlled by organized crime. Therefore I urge my
colleagues to reject H.R. 4411, the Internet Gambling Prohibition and
Enforcement Act. — Ron Paul July 12, 2006 (Source: www.politechbot.com)
Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate I am aware of who opposes prohibition of Internet gambling. The only candidate I know who is on record in favor of it is Former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee (source).
I know that there are other issues besides Internet gambling that voters care about. You can learn more about Ron Paul's positions at these sites:
