Reason #4 why the Wizard likes Bovada:

One-Stop Shopping

Bovada offers the triple crown of gambling: casino, poker, and sports. Many other casinos have tacked on poker as an afterthought, and many poker rooms have tacked on a casino as an afterthought, and the lack of attention shows, sometimes painfully. And very few of these sites let you make sports wagers.

But Bovada doesn’t just offer all three, they do each one well, and everything’s integrated. It’s easy to play all three off one deposit, off just one account.

Another nice thing about Bovada is that you don’t need a separate account to play casino games with fake money. In fact you do not even need an account for that at all, you can just click over there and play. Finally, Bovada usernames are only six or seven characters long making them possible to remember. By contrast some competitors’ usernames are extremely long and cumbersome.

Pay the Aces Video Poker

Last Update: Mar 30, 2009

Pay the Aces is a video poker game I have seen in a few casinos in Laughlin, Nevada. Strangely, I have never seen it anywhere else. The plays like double bonus, except there are bonuses for getting aces on the deal, with no face cards.

The following table shows the base game, before considering the bonuses.

Pay the Aces Base Game

The next pay table shows the value of the bonuses on the deal.

Pay the Aces Bonuses
HandPaysCombinationsProbabilityReturn
Four aces no faces dealt 500 36 0.000014 0.006926
Three aces no faces dealt 50 2520 0.000970 0.048481
Two aces no faces dealt 2 42840 0.016484 0.032967
One ace no faces dealt 1 235620 0.090659 0.090659
Other 0 2317944 0.891874 0.000000
Total 0 2598960 1.000000 0.179033

So the overall return of the game is 0.789912 + 0.179033 = 0.968945.

I have an unconfirmed report that the Riverside casino offers a different bonus pay table, as follows.

Pay the Aces Bonuses — Riverside Pay Table
HandPaysCombinationsProbabilityReturn
Four aces no faces dealt 1500 36 0.000014 0.020778
Royal flush dealt 1000 4 0.000002 0.001539
Three aces no faces dealt 50 2520 0.000970 0.048481
Two aces no faces dealt 2 42840 0.016484 0.032967
One ace no faces dealt 1 235620 0.090659 0.090659
Other 0 2317944 0.891874 0.000000
Total 0 2598964 1.000002 0.194424

Applying this pay table to the same base pay table results in an overall return of 0.789912 + 0.194424 = 0.984336.
